State Avenue Sew-along: Week 5

State Avenue Quilt sew-along hosted by Nollie + Bean

Week 5 is here and we're making our last blocks!

Looking to join us?  Grab your copy of the pattern and check out the previous blog posts!

Week 5 a bit of a reflective week as we finish our blocks.
We're getting into the home stretch!  This week we are finishing up our blocks and next week we'll get to sew it all up!

The transformative process of quilting never gets old.  With each quilt I make, I'm always in awe that the original stack of fabric is going to get cut into a million pieces and then sewn back together to make not only a work of art, but a functional  household item.

So, let's take a moment to reflect on the process of making this quilt!

In Week 1 we selected a color palette and mixed and matched our fabrics to tell a fun color story once all of our pieces have been sewn back together.

In Week 2 we were able to either learn or get in some more practice making the most versatile quilt block/component there is, the half square triangle!  I also shared my method for powering through a bunch of trimming -- my least favorite part of the entire process!

In Week 3 we mastered how to keep directional fabrics in check when making four-at-a-time flying geese!  I love this method of making flying geese and I adore how easy it is when working with directional fabrics!

In Week 4 I shared my method for cranking through several State Avenue quilt blocks at a time.  Once you find the method that works for you, these blocks really do come together pretty fast!

These blog posts will always live on my website, so feel free to return to them any time.

Next week we finally get to put it all together into our quilt top.  I'll share how I choose my block layout.  I'll warn you, it is possible to rearrange quilt blocks for a ridiculous amount of time!  Have your camera ready to snap some pictures as you go along!

Optional Instagram Post and this week's prize!
Post a picture using #stateavenuesal before midnight on Sunday, September 6, 2020 of your beautiful blocks to be entered to win this week's prize!

This week's prize will be a set of 5 handmade soaps!  This was also the prize for Week 3 and I received positive feedback for it, so I thought why not do it again!  Make sure your account is public so I can see your post and I'll announce the winner on Instagram next week!

Tekstil Crave Quilting
The Longarm League has partnered with the sew-along!  There's a team of five quilters who are offering 20% off to sew-along participants!  This offer expires on October 31, 2020, so make sure to send your quilts off timely! :)

One of those quilters is Lauren from Tekstil Crave Quilting.  Visit her website at www.tekstilcrave.com.

Lauren offers Longarm quilting in her pet-free, smoke-free home studio in Minneapolis, MN.  She machine quilts digital edge-to-edge quilts on her 12’ Handi Quilter Avanté with Pro Stitcher computer software, and she especially likes to work with customers that are new to Longarm quilting services and may be a bit apprehensive.

Lauren uses high quality quilting thread and offers a few batting selections. You are welcome to send me your quilt shop quality batting, although most quilters find it’s simpler to have their Longarm service provide it for them.

If you are new to machine quilting services, she welcomes inquiries and provides a free estimate to assist customers with the ins and outs of Longarm quilting service.  She currently has a very fast turn around, 1 to 2 weeks! Once your quilt is in her hands, she will provide you with a more precise estimate of completion.
