Aster Quilt - The Prickly Pear One

Aster Quilt Pattern

For the forth Aster Quilt, I wanted to pick colors outside of my comfort zone. There are such beautiful fabrics out there, I wanted to pick bright, vibrant colors.

One of my favorite new fabric lines is Ruby Star Society's speckled and I was really drawn to this deep berry color.  This fabric was my starting point.  I've also been looking for a quilt to use Carolyn Friedlander's succulent print, and well, this quilt was perfect for it.  Then to tie the two together, it was Alison Glass for the win, with Daydream in sweetheart.

With all the desert blooms we're seeing this year, I quickly realized why I was drawn to that beautiful deep berry color!

I wanted to select main and background fabrics that would help these bold colors really pop!  So, I picked Add It Up in Copper Metallic for the main petals and Essex Linen in Opal for the background.  I pretty much use Add It Up and Essex Linen somewhere in nearly all of my quilts.  They are my favorite basics that easily add a little dimension and texture.

After working on a large throw, this baby sized quilt came together so quickly!

Those sweet birds on the back of the quilt are called Goldfinch designed by Mia Charro :).

Nolan claimed this quilt for himself back when the fabrics arrived and he saw those birds!  He was very excited to snuggle with it when it was finished, and is the perfect quilt holder!
