Imagine this: a quilt designed with the beginner quilter and fabric hoarder in mind.  Yep, I’m talking about the Willetta Quilt pattern, specifically the one I made during the Quilt-Along. 

Now, let's rewind a bit and delve into the genesis of this quilt. It all started with a spark of inspiration and a desire to heed my own advice to use your stash. As a quilt pattern writer, I'm often caught up in the whirlwind of designing and creating patterns for others. But this time, I wanted to create something just for me — something that spoke to my soul and brought me pure joy. And what better way to do that than by diving headfirst into my stash of favorite fabrics?  I decided to make a quilt with my favorite prints from Sarah Watt’s Backyard collection.  It’s filled with my favorite things — bunnies, chickens, flowers, butterflies and berry brambles!!

So, armed with my trusty sewing machine and a plethora of cherished prints, I set out to bring this Willetta Quilt to life. And let me tell you, the journey was nothing short of magical. During the quilt-along I hosted, fellow quilters joined me on this adventure, each one infusing their unique style and personality into their own Willetta Quilts. It was a celebration of creativity, community, and, of course, copious amounts of fabric love.

Now, let's talk technique. The Willetta Quilt comes together with ease, thanks to its simple piecing techniques. It's the perfect project for quilters of all skill levels, whether you're a seasoned pro or a newbie just dipping your toes into the wonderful world of quilting. And as for the quilting itself, I opted for a classic approach — simple 1-inch horizontal rows that add just the right amount of texture and coziness to the finished quilt.

But hey, if you're itching to give it a try yourself, I've got a few tips up my sleeve. First and foremost, don't be afraid to dive into your fabric stash and pull out those prints that make your heart sing. This quilt is all about showcasing your favorite fabrics in all their glory, so don't hold back! And when it comes to piecing and quilting, remember to take it one stitch at a time. Quilting is as much about the journey as it is about the destination, so savor every moment and embrace the process.

From cutting fabric to those post-first wash snuggles, this quilt came together in just 5 weeks (4 weeks following the QAL schedule and a final week for quilting). And let me tell you, those first snuggles were worth every stitch. There's something truly special about wrapping yourself in a quilt made with love and care, knowing that every thread tells a story of creativity and craftsmanship.

As for the future of this quilt, well, the possibilities are endless. From movie nights to lazy Sunday mornings, I can already envision it becoming a cherished staple in my home.

Now, you might be wondering how this quilt fits into my overall quilting style, and it's a bit of a departure from the norm.  I'm generally not one to stick to a single fabric collection. I love to mix and match prints, textures, and colors to create quilts that are as unique as the people who cuddle up under them. But there's something about the scrappy sashing in this quilt that's got me all kinds of excited. It's fresh, it's fun, and it's a little out of my comfort zone — and I absolutely love it!
