The Stella Lane Quilt Pattern

Stella Lane Quilt | A modern quilt pattern by Nollie Bean

I’m so excited to share the Stella Lane Quilt Pattern with you!

This pattern only uses five different fabrics, but the color movement is amazing!  It seems like this quilt explodes with color, and it’s amazing to me that so much movement can come from so few fabrics :).

You can get your copy of the Stella Lane Quilt Pattern here!!

The quilt pattern includes a QR code to a free downloadable companion that includes a coloring page, fabric labels and a progress tracker.

Over the next several weeks you can follow along with me as I make a Stella Lane Quilt and share some helpful tips and tricks along the way.

But, this blog post is all about the behind the scenes journey of the creation of the Stella Lane quilt - including some fun trivia about my time living on Stella Lane…

My last quilt pattern - Desert Cove - was designed around using 2 1/2” strips and while working with them, a few other ideas came to mind.  One of those ideas was to create a log cabin-ish block.  The block came together easily, but determining the fabric layout and color theory took some time to perfect.

I played around with having a single color way, four colors, eight colors, and then an idea struck to try it out with five and I LOVED it.  Now…I want to take a step back and share that this process took some TIME!

I started working on the design for this quilt in October 2021 and didn’t fully flesh it out until months later. I mention that to say if you’re working on something and you don’t love it, don’t give up on it, just set it aside and work on other things.  Your mind will continue to work it out and inspiration could strike when you least expect it :)

Once the pattern was set and I knew I’d be releasing it, it needed a name.  You may or may not know that all of my quilt patterns are named after roads in Phoenix. Sometimes I know exactly which road as I’m designing the pattern, but many times - like with this quilt - I didn’t know.

I began thinking about all of the roads that I have lived on and recalled Stella Lane!  It was perfect for the vibe of this quilt.  Stella Lane was the road I lived on during my high school years and literally every time we ordered pizza and had to give our address the person on the other end of the phone would yell “STELLA!!!!” in their best Marlon Brando voice…it really became a thing.  Anywho…let’s talk about these quilt pictures!

I was working on this pattern when my son’s spring break rolled around.  We decided that we’d spend a couple of days during his spring break in Southern California - specifically in the Palm Springs area - going on a few hikes.

We spent one day discovering Joshua Tree National Park and the next day on top of San Jacinto Peak after riding the tram up.

Guys…..these pictures!!!  I might just need to make a road trip over to Joshua Tree an annual event and bring all the quilts.  It is so beautiful there, I could not believe it.

Okay, I hope you’re loving the Stella Quilt as much as I am and you’re ready to grab the pattern, pick out five fabrics and get started sewing up your quilt!  There’s also a couple quilt kits available in the shop.
