Paradise Lane Quilt: The Dole Whip One
I had a lot of fun sewing up this cute, tropical inspired baby quilt. I actually got started on this quilt sample before the other Paradise Lanes, but I'm so excited by this patten, that I quickly cut into other fabric pulls before coming back to finish up this quilt.
As a quilter and lover of all fabrics, I'm always on the lookout for a good fabric bundle. When Fabric Bubb offered a bundle called Dole Whip, which featured the fun Pineapple prints from Rifle's Primavera line mixed with some corresponding basics, I had to pick it up.
It sat it my stash for almost a year, but I knew it would be PERFECT for this pattern! I also happened to have just the right amount of Kona in meringue in my stash and I was off and cutting!
*FUN* FACT: I actually panic purchased this Kona in meringue back in March or April 2020 when light background colors were nearly impossible to find! (The asterisks indicate my sarcasm)
Mix and match quilts are always so fun to make and this quilt is no exception. The large petals also show off some larger prints in a fun way.
Also, there is just something about a pink and yellow palette that is so soothing to me. I've made a couple quilts with this color combination, and it never fails!!
I decided to keep the quilting simple with 1-inch straight line quilting. And, from the bundle, I used two coordinating solids to create a scrappy-looking binding.
I love to work in scrappy binding whenever I can. If I'm using a bundle of fabrics, I like to use as much from that bundle as I can. And, if I'm not using a bundle, but have any 2 1/2" strips left over from my fabrics, I love working them into the binding.
Since I made the quilt top and binding from my stash, I challenged myself to also find backing for this quilt from my stash. Fortunately, I had this charming white and grey stripped backing left over from an Ikea duvet I used to back a different quilt. It's super soft and I felt added to the softness of the quilt top.
Then, I finished the quilt off with some big stitch binding and threw it in the wash to get all cozy and crinkly.
I hope you enjoy this quilt pattern as much as I do! Thank you for following along!
